F-150 Lightning $7,500 EV Credit Status — May 2026
F-150 Lightning continues to qualify for the full $7,500 federal clean vehicle credit at point of sale at Sunrise Ford. Eligibility unchanged: $80k MSRP cap on truck class, buyer income limits ($150k single / $300k MFJ).
Current eligibility
F-150 Lightning Pro, XLT, Flash, Lariat, and most Platinum configurations stay under the $80k MSRP cap and qualify for the full $7,500 federal clean vehicle credit (Section 30D) at point of sale. Loaded Platinum builds with extensive options can push over $80k — Eugenio confirms eligibility per build before delivery.
Buyer income limits (unchanged for 2026)
Modified AGI caps: $150,000 single, $225,000 head of household, $300,000 married filing jointly. If you exceed these, you do not qualify for the credit even if the vehicle does. The lookback is the lesser of current-year or prior-year income.
Point-of-sale application
Sunrise Ford is a registered dealer for the IRS point-of-sale credit transfer program — the $7,500 gets applied as a price reduction at delivery instead of waiting for tax filing. You sign IRS Form 8936 paperwork at delivery; the dealer handles the rest. Faster cash flow than the old "claim it next April" path.
Used Lightning credit (Section 25E)
Used Lightning units now qualifying for the $4,000 used clean vehicle credit (or 30% of sale price, whichever is less). Requirements: vehicle 2+ model years old, sold for $25,000 or less, purchased from a qualifying dealer, buyer income under $75,000 single / $150,000 MFJ. Eugenio confirms used Lightning eligibility as inventory becomes available.
Commercial / business buyers
Section 45W commercial clean vehicle credit applies to Lightning purchased or leased for business use. Up to $7,500. No buyer income cap. Different rules from the consumer credit. For fleet or business buyers, this is often a better path — Eugenio runs both options.
What could change
Federal EV credit rules are subject to congressional action and Treasury guidance. As of May 2026, the program structure is intact. Eugenio monitors and notes any policy changes that affect Lightning eligibility on this site.
