The short answer

F-150 wins on engine variety, towing capacity, Pro Power Onboard, and trim flexibility (XL through Raptor R). RAM 1500 wins on ride comfort (still has coil rear suspension), interior luxury at mid-trims, and the Hurricane I-6 twin-turbo lineup. Both are excellent. Pick by whether ride comfort or capability matters more, and which interior aesthetic you prefer.

Engines

F-150: 2.7L EcoBoost, 3.5L EcoBoost, 5.0L V8, 3.5L PowerBoost Hybrid. RAM 1500 (2025+): Standard Output Hurricane I-6 (420 hp), High Output Hurricane I-6 (540 hp), 3.6L V6 (305 hp base), and the 5.7L Hemi V8 was discontinued for retail in 2025. RAM REV all-electric coming. F-150 has the only hybrid; RAM has the highest naturally-aspirated-equivalent output (HO Hurricane).

Towing and payload

F-150: up to 13,500 lbs tow / 3,325 lbs payload. RAM 1500: up to 11,560 lbs tow / 2,300 lbs payload (HO Hurricane). F-150 wins both, but most retail buyers do not approach those limits.

Ride comfort

RAM has the segment's smoothest ride — coil-spring rear suspension (optional air suspension) is unique among full-size trucks (most use leaf springs including F-150). If your daily driving is unloaded city/highway and ride comfort matters, RAM has a meaningful advantage.

Interior

RAM Limited / Longhorn / Tungsten interior is genuinely premium — quality matches or beats F-150 Platinum at mid-trim. F-150 King Ranch / Platinum / Raptor are competitive at the top. RAM Tungsten is the new ultra-luxury halo trim. F-150 Limited / Raptor R are the Ford halos.

Tech and driver assist

F-150 BlueCruise hands-free is best-in-class for highway driving. RAM uses the Stellantis hands-on equivalent. F-150 12-inch SYNC 4 portrait screen vs RAM's 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 — both excellent, different layouts. F-150 wins on hands-free; RAM wins on screen real estate.

Off-road

F-150: Tremor (mid off-road), Raptor (desert pre-runner), Raptor R (700+ hp halo). RAM: Rebel (mid off-road), 1500 RHO (650+ hp Hurricane HO, replaced TRX). RHO is the new TRX — comparable to Raptor on capability and price. Different tunes; comparable spec.

Price

F-150 starts mid-$30s (XL). RAM 1500 starts low-$40s (Tradesman). F-150 has more entry-trim flexibility. Loaded volume retail: F-150 Lariat ~$60k, RAM Limited ~$70k. Halo: Raptor R north of $100k, RAM RHO mid-$70s.

How to decide

Pick F-150 for: engine variety (especially PowerBoost hybrid + Pro Power Onboard), BlueCruise hands-free, dealer + parts ubiquity, lower entry price. Pick RAM for: smoothest ride in segment, premium mid-trim interiors, Hurricane I-6 power, RHO halo. Eugenio at Sunrise Ford handles the F-150 side.
