The short answer
Camaro production ended after the 2024 model year. The 6th-gen Camaro is gone (no 7th-gen announced). That makes Mustang the only true gas-powered American muscle car still in production. The comparison shifts from new-vs-new to new Mustang vs used Camaro — and the new Mustang has the long-term advantage of factory warranty, parts availability, and a clear future.
New Mustang lineup
7th-gen Mustang (S650): EcoBoost (315 hp), GT (5.0L Coyote V8, 480 hp), GT Premium, Dark Horse (500 hp Coyote, track-tuned), Dark Horse Premium. 6-speed manual on V8; 10-speed auto on EcoBoost and V8. Coupe and convertible. Performance Pack available.
Used Camaro market
6th-gen Camaro (2016-2024) used: 2.0L turbo (275 hp), 3.6L V6 (335 hp), 6.2L LT1 V8 (455 hp SS), 6.2L LT4 supercharged V8 (650 hp ZL1). Coupe and convertible. 6-speed manual on most trims. Aftermarket support is strong but will eventually shrink as the model fades from production.
Future-proofing
New Mustang: Ford has confirmed future Mustang generations and EV variants are in development. Active model = active warranty + active parts supply + active enthusiast community + active dealer support. Camaro: GM confirmed no 7th-gen. Aftermarket and parts supply will fade gradually.
Driving feel
Mustang feels lighter on its feet, more communicative steering. Camaro 6.2L V8 has slightly more brute force at the top end (LT1 / SS). Both are excellent driver's cars. Mustang Dark Horse track tune (MagneRide, Brembos, Recaro) is the closest current equivalent to a Camaro 1LE.
Tech and interior
New Mustang: 12.4-inch digital cluster, 13.2-inch SYNC 4 portrait screen, modern interior. Camaro: dated interior compared to the new Mustang, especially infotainment. Mustang wins on tech by a meaningful margin.
Resale and ownership
New Mustang has full Ford warranty + factory support. Used Camaro: 6-8 year-old vehicles by 2026 — out of factory warranty mostly, ZL1 supercharged units showing track wear, parts lead times growing. New Mustang is the lower-risk purchase.
How to decide
Pick new Mustang for: factory warranty, modern tech, future-proof model, manual V8 still available, Sunrise Ford support. Pick used Camaro for: ZL1 supercharged value (often cheaper than equivalent Mustang), 6.2L V8 brute, Camaro-specific styling preference. For most buyers in 2026, new Mustang is the rational pick.
